MTB music is NOT genre specific. Every conceivable kind and era of music - dating back so far to the 1970's - is included: all kinds of rock, country, rap, blues, ballads, jazz, head bangers and screamers, contemporary Christian, and even something resembling big band can be heard. The only criteria used is that the artists, musicians, writers and/or composers must be recognized as part of the local Tampa Bay music scene. Songs recorded in local Tampa Bay studios are also generally included in this category, if the talent involved is not signed to a major recording company or recognized nationally. Also, artists from other parts of Florida, may be included, provided they are current or occasional performers at Tampa Bay venues.
More than a thousand local solo artists and groups, as found on www.TampaBayMusicScene.com and other sources, are all being targeted in the ongoing on-line MTB continuous music streaming format. Downloads from various band sites, and numerous contacts already well established, are already being compiled for addition to the existing playlist. MTB also purchases local CDs and downloads, though budget restraints limit the number of these transactions over time. Songs are also "ripped" from MySpace and other on-line sources. Permission sought from artists by email or other means to included these within MTB programming.
MTB Goes Vinyl. Music Tampa Bay added a brand new turntable (no kidding) to its hardware mix in 2005. Older recordings of local groups on 33-1/3 & 45 rpm records are now being added to the MTB Classic collection. The first local "golden oldie" (added 9/05) is the song I've Been Thnkin' from the 1977 Boot LP Turn The Other Cheek. While in fairly good condition, some record groove static and a few nicks can be heard in this almost 30 year old mp3 dub. MTB is anxious to add classics from other bay area musicians. Anyone who can provide any good classic local recordings is urged to contact MTB.
MTB accepts audition and demo recordings, promotional CDs, tapes, records and digital audio files, along with bios and artist information and current activities if appropriate. Send materials to MTB, PO Box 11874, St Petersburg, FL 33733, or by email file attachment to link at MTB, or by any convenient means.
♫ MTB MUSIC - It is hoped the songs and artists displayed above, and heard on MTB will provide a showcase for the rich heritage of local talent which is clearly in abundance in and around "Great Tampa Bay". Songs are ranked by a variety of criteria, most notably:
♫ frequency, longevity and current status of local appearances by the artist(s)
♫ recording production quality
♫ media exposure in newspapers and TV & radio
♫ artist and fan response by email and on MTB Contact and MySpace pages
♫ availability and marketing of CD's and on-line listening and download capability
and to some extent,
♫ artistic and creative ability displayed in each recording made available to MTB for web-play.
With some exception, MTB does not, however, attempt to determine what constitutes talent or the degree of musical ability revealed in songs, as it is felt these are generally subjective qualities that can truly only be determined by listeners. This rule might be interpreted as "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", or more appropriately, "great music is in the ear of the listener". To this extent, listener feedback is a critical component in the determination of what is heard on Music Tampa Bay, and what is not.
Footnote: The "exception" to the general criteria described above refers to the purging of ear-shattering, head-banging, soul-wrenching selections often described as punk, grunge, heavy & death metal, industrial, and other versions that might be collectively regarded as "hard rock", and ascribing these songs to what broadcast radio has come to recognize as certain day-parts, primarily late at night and/or in selective time slots on weekends. Other genres such as gangsta rap and hip hop may also be bunched in with the "hard rock" group for selective listening, though moderate and well produced rap is often heard in the general MTB collection. Some rather obscure music types such as something called porn groove, new wave, chants, jungle and others not yet identified may appear on rare occasion, though not likely to be part of the normal MTB music mix. It may also be noted that so far, not one single polka has shown up in the search of Great Tampa Bay music, though if a decent quality song in this genre is uncovered, it may well reach the regular rotation of the "MTB Great 48". Finally, a certain "Trade Secret" cited in making decisions regarding web-play on this site simply refers to the personal preference and special interest in artists and songs by your MTB host.
MTB is expanding its pool of songs, now with more than 400 songs in the MTB Music Library, and growing all the time. Artists who would like to submit songs for web-play may do so in a variety of ways: (1) Advise MTB by any convenient means (see contact page) where selections may be downloaded or ripped and give specific permission to do so, (2) Attach mp3 or other standard format file copies to email sent to MTB (again, see contact page), or (3) mail CD's to PO box at the top of the home page (or, of course on the contact page). Waivers of royalty payment requirements for copyrighted material are appreciated. The Top 10 and Great 48 revised weekly. For music selection criteria, see "♫ MB Music " at the bottom of this page
